Hair Loss Treatment

Treatment for hair loss depends on what’s causing it. If it’s due to temporary causes like pregnancy or hormone changes, no treatment is needed, and the hair usually grows back on its own within a year. If it’s caused by medicines or illness, treatments may help slow the hair loss or stimulate partial regrowth. Hair transplantation can replace lost hair, but it is expensive and not covered by insurance. Some types of hair loss, especially hereditary baldness, are permanent.압구정탈모병원

A dermatologist will ask you about your health history and examine your scalp and hair loss pattern. Your doctor may gently pull out a few hairs for testing. A blood test or a scalp biopsy can also be done to look at the cells under a microscope and determine what’s causing your hair loss.

Corticosteroids can stop alopecia areata, an autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the hair follicles and causes them to shrink or disappear (exhibit A). The injections contain synthetic forms of cortisol, a hormone made naturally by the adrenal glands, to prevent these attacks. You can use topical steroids or take them orally, but they may not work as well as the injections.

Some chemotherapy and radiation therapy medications cause hair loss. This can happen on the entire body, but it’s most common on the head and in the armpits. It is sometimes reversible, but you may need to continue treatment for the rest of your life.

Medical conditions like thyroid problems, infections of the scalp or trichotillomania (a compulsive hair-pulling disorder) can lead to thinning or balding. An inflammatory disease called folliculitis decalvans can cause scarring and destroy the hair follicles (exhibit B). Another inflammatory disease that leads to permanent hair loss is diffuse alopecia areata, which is associated with chronic stress.

Other illnesses can cause hair loss, including some cancers and infections. Some hair loss is due to menopause or childbirth, but this usually goes away after a few months. If the hair loss is due to an illness, medicine or radiation therapy, the treatment should stop and the hair will usually grow back in the area that was irradiated.모우다의원

There are many treatment options for hair loss, but the effectiveness of any treatment will depend on what’s causing it. Some treatments, like lotions or tablets, need to be taken continuously for them to work. Other options, like wigs or hairpieces, can disguise baldness until the hair grows back. Your personal feelings about the hair loss can also play a role in whether you decide to treat it or not. If you don’t want to have treatment, you can try changing your hair style or using hair products that are less damaging. If you do choose to treat your hair loss, it’s important that you follow your doctor’s instructions carefully to avoid harmful side effects. Some treatments can be uncomfortable, so you might need to talk to a counselor about how to deal with any emotional issues related to it.
